In his attitude and commentary since his father's death and the DUP's performance in the last assembly election Paisley Jr has been one of the few DUP politicians giving any form of self-critical and realistic analysis. He deserves a comprehensive election victory which he will get.
Again an obvious DUP hold. As mentioned above Paisley has been more sensible and reasoned in the past few years, along with being the only DUP politician to not mince words when criticising Foster.
Councillor Timothy Gaston standing for the fourth time in 2 years for the TUV. The party has been a distant runner-up in all these election, but in March Sinn Féin were only a few hundred votes behind in 3rd. Without Allister on the ballot their vote will fall back slightly.
Sinn Féin selected Glens councillor Cara McShane. FWIR there was talk in the 2016 Assembly election of her being the second SF candidate in NA, having support from Conor Murphy within the party, but nothing came of it and she wasn't chosen for co-option after the Jamie Bryson coaching scandal caused McKay to resign. Likely to be the distant runner up.
The new UUP leader is sitting out this election, instead choosing an unknown candidate. Just over 10%.
SDLP have selected former MLA and current Ballymena councillor Declan O'Loan, having sat out the two elections since 2015. ~7% seems to be the average for the party in NA now.
Assuming what exists of the Alliance campaign will be focused in Ballymena to build for a seat in the next council election.
