Easy to forget how well Cameron did in these kinds of seats which have generally not swung as strongly against Labour 1997-2015 than seats in the Midlands and North.
In 2010 the following seats voted Conservative by under 500 votes:
Broxtowe Cardiff North Oxford West & Abingdon Stockton South
The majorities in all 4 increased considerably in 2015.
Apart from Broxtowe, all lost in 2017.
The Conservative vote was up in all these seats aside from Cardiff North and Oxford West & Abingdon this year, but the swings against them were considerable.
Given the failure of the Conservative Party to retake Birmingham, Edgbaston; Crosby; Edinburgh, Pentlands; Gedling and Wirral South after 1997, they were lucky to take this one back in the first place.
